Sarasota Fishing Report
August 7, 2026

Summer mornings continue to provide the most consistent fishing around Sarasota before the afternoon thunderstorms build. A mix of inshore and nearshore action produced a variety of species, with live whitebait and pinfish keeping rods bent throughout the morning.

This Week's Report

Getting on the water early has become the key to consistent summer fishing around Sarasota, and today’s trip was another good example of why. Three anglers joined us for a morning that started under a mix of sunshine and scattered clouds before the typical afternoon weather began building offshore.

Instead of staying in one area, we worked both the nearshore reefs and the inshore grass flats to stay with active fish. Live whitebait and pinfish were the baits of choice, allowing us to adapt as the tide changed and different species became active throughout the morning.

The variety was hard to beat. Redfish and snook provided steady action around the mangroves, while spotted sea trout kept everyone busy over the deeper grass flats. A cobia added a welcome surprise during one of our nearshore stops, and several mangrove snapper rounded out an enjoyable mixed bag.

August fishing often rewards anglers who are willing to make the most of the first few hours after sunrise. Water temperatures remain warm, so fish are generally more active before the heat of the day settles in. Once the afternoon thunderstorms begin developing, both boating conditions and the bite can change quickly.

The current pattern should remain similar over the next couple of weeks. Early departures, healthy live bait, and the flexibility to move between inshore and nearshore water continue to produce the best results. If the weather cooperates, anglers can expect a good mix of species and plenty of opportunities before the afternoon rain arrives.
